Why Did We Start The Young Dollar Diary?

Hi! Welcome to The Young Dollar Diary!

Allow us to first introduce ourselves... We are two 19-year-old university student from Australia, and are on a mission to learn about managing money, building wealth, and striving for financial independence. As we juggle our studies, part-time work, and other passions, we’ve come to realize that navigating the world of finance at a young age is both exciting and challenging—but it’s a journey we are committed to.

This blog is our space to share my experiences, lessons, and goals as we work towards financial freedom. Whether you're a student, someone just starting your financial journey, or simply curious about how others are managing their money, we hope our story will inspire and provide practical tips along the way.

Money is often a topic that gets swept under the table. In our experience, many people avoid it because they view discussions about income, savings, and expenses as disrespectful or rude. But we were lucky enough to grow up in an environment where money was openly discussed, especially with our parents. From a young age, they included us in conversations about the importance of being smart with your money. And this wasn’t about saving every penny, but rather finding that sweet balance between saving for the future and rewarding yourself for hard work.

As we mature into adulthood, we’ve come to realize how little financial literacy is taught, and how many people aren’t aware of the simple concepts that can empower them financially.

Through this blog, we hope to connect with others in similar stages of life and help provide direction in all areas of money management. For those who feel they lack the financial knowledge to survive and thrive in this expensive world, we're here to share what we’ve learned—and what we continue to learn—along the way.
